Yes, I do. I have some catching up to do, on sleep, on this blog, on housework, on a lot of things.
Three weeks of full-time work has kicked my butt. I haven’t had a job in three years–2 waiting for Canadian Immigration to process my application and one more because…well I don’t know exactly. That’s open for discussion and hand-wringing. It could be because I’m fat and fifty; it could be that I don’t interview well; it could be that Canadians are a little funny about “foreign” education. Whatever the reason, I haven’t been up, dressed, coffeed, and out of the house much before noon in the past three years.
Boy was I out of practice. Keeping to an employer’s schedule is much different from moving at your own pace; doing what you want, when you want. I’ve been moving at my own pace for so long–procrastinating this and rescheduling that. I had forgotten what it was like to try to swill hot coffee in the bathroom at 6 AM (in the freaking morning!) while applying makeup and brushing your teeth, all while keeping one eye on the clock and the other on the weather conditions.
The 1 1/2 hour bus commute each way didn’t help me either. Sweet Hubby bought me an iPod recently and it came in mighty handy because Mississauga buses are often crowded enough that reading the newspaper, or anything really, is just too difficult. The iPod is perfect–except for the stupid little ear-buds that won’t stay in my ears. For as much as they cost, you’d think they would come with better accessories–or ANY accessories really. Cheap b*stards.
On the positive side, I’ve been getting more exercise. Just a couple blocks at a time mind you, but hustling this big ass up the street to catch a bus is a bit of a workout! Even after just a few days thought I could feel it getting easier. Once upon a time I walked everywhere–maybe I’ll be able to get back some of what I’ve lost.
Meanwhile on the homefront, we did try, or at least made a couple feeble attempts to keep the apartment reasonably clean if not exactly tidy, but looking around today, I can see that we failed miserably. I managed to do a couple loads of laundry today, but tomorrow–a full-fledged housecleaning is in order.
On Monday I’m off to find some more work.
The time away from home, out among other people was good for me though. If nothing else, I’ve been able to self-obsess in new surroundings!
Decisions have been made. The next post will reveal all….*
*Was that enough drama???
