The problem is hyperplasia with atypia is associated with a high co-occurrence of Stage 1 cancer in the uterus but it is not a 100%. There is a high risk of having cancer somewhere in the uterus but there is also a high risk that the uterus is normal. Because of the high risk, surgery is recommended. I am trying to get a second opinion on my slides.
best of luck to both of us
Hi Rainbow,
Yes, I have seen Dr Toaff’s site and I have confirmed similar statistics on other sites. Approximately 25% of Complex Atypical Hyperplasia cases may turn into some kind of cancer if left untreated. But Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo Oopherectomy is not the only treatment and it should not be the first or only recommended treatment. There is no evidence that there is anything wrong with my ovaries or my cervix so it is just beyond my comprehension right now why a decent physician would advocate the removal of healthy organs.
I applaud your search to get a second opinion. I’m still waiting for mine. With all the nasty side effects of TAH-BSO, I’m not giving in to it unless/until I am convinced it’s the only option left open to me.
Fortunately for us this is a slow-growing thing so supposedly we have some time to trot around to various doctors and try other treatments before we sign up for a hysterectomy.
Thanks for the comment; I’m sure happy some people are reading my blog! I’d love to hear from you again–can we compare treatments and results periodically?
Cheers!
